Journal Entry #2: Digital Communication
When it comes to digital communication, what I've found the most surprising is how many different types of digital communication there are today. For example, messaging. There is SMS messaging, messaging through Instagram, through Facebook, through Pinterest, Twitter, Snapchat, email, and many more. It seems almost overwhelming. I do feel that I sometimes overuse my smart phone while on social media, texting or while viewing other media while I could be communicating in other ways like through call or in person. Blind Carbon copy or BCC is used whilst sending a file or message through email that allows the sender of a message to conceal the person(s) entered in the Bcc: field from the other recipients. This feature can be applied in circumstances when you do not want people to know who some of the other recipients are like in confidential job emails or even invitations to parties. The most important thing I think young people should consider when communicating digitally is that there is a person on the other side of the screen. Do not say anything you wouldn't say or do in person, think before you post, and be kind to one another. 🙂
