Journal #7: Digital Access

Yes, I think having access to internet is a basic human right, because now in 2018 we use the internet so much for anything from school assignments and job resumes to gathering information and connecting with each other. Without internet, we are missing out on many basic privileges that many with internet may not realize they take for granted. Considering I do not know a public place that offers free internet access off the top of my head, I would say no, there are not enough public places for people who need Internet access, but have none at home. Sometimes I do become concerned about my privacy when sharing information while using my phone or computer, especially while online shopping on a new website that seems a little shady and when granting apps permission to certain things on my phone. Some ways I could prevent my information from being taken is by making sure websites are secure and have https on the web address and that the website is 'locked' before buying anything off that website or submitting any sort of information, as well as reading the requirements for apps before downloading them. Being a young person, I do sometimes wonder about the things I post now coming back to cause trouble for me later in life. However, I never really post things that I wouldn't want anybody to see online, so I've never really worried about such things. The biggest issue for young people when it comes to digital access and privacy is that more and more people are getting hacked on social medias, and giving away their personal information to rouge websites. We all should be more careful online to avoid these sort of situations.
