Digital Awareness Campaign "unplug."

Image
c l i c k  t o  e n l a r g e     This poster campaign addresses the issue of internet overuse. Surrounding digital wellness, a major problem we have in our society today is the overuse of social media platforms, streaming websites, and technology in general. This issue is deteriorating our mental, physical, and emotional health, and we have to learn when enough is enough. As young adults and teens, we use the internet as a way to express ourselves. However, we need to know when the amount of technology we have become using is unhealthy, and when to unplug.  For my poster, I decided to use a picture of someone using a smartphone on the app Instagram. This is   because I felt many more viewers would relate to the message by seeing a familiar sight, as well as because  Instagram  has become one of the most draining and negatively effecting app we use today. The message I am trying to spread is that we are spending way too much time on the inte...

Journal #8: Digital Law

In this unit, I found the most surprising thing to be how many types of copyrights there are, and the number of law combinations there are. However, I didn't really find anything that confusing or information hard to locate as mostly everything was explained pretty clearly. Most of the videos were also very helpful when explaining the topics in this unit, as they had many examples and visuals included in the presentations. I think the website NeedHelpNow.com is a very helpful and resourceful page for young people looking for information or help on cyber bullying. It offers different tips, examples, help and information on all different types of situations that a variety of teens struggle with. The biggest issue with young people when it comes to copyright is that students seem to have become too slack. Most people, do not understand the consequences and do not take copyright/infringement seriously. The biggest issue with  young people when it ...

Journal #7: Digital Access

Yes, I think having access to internet is a basic human right, because now in 2018 we use the internet so much for anything from school assignments and job resumes to gathering information and connecting with each other. Without internet, we are missing out on many basic privileges that many with internet may not realize they take for granted. Considering I do not know a public place that offers free internet access off the top of my head, I would say no,  there are not enough public places for people who need Internet access, but have none at home. Sometimes I do become concerned about my privacy when sharing information while using my phone or computer, especially while online shopping on a new website that seems a little shady and when granting apps permission to certain things on my phone. Some ways I could prevent my information from being taken is by making sure websites are secure and have http s on the web address and that the website is 'loc...

1.  Our medical records should be digitally stored online for all medical professionals to access within the hospital when needed.             I agree that our medical records should be digitally stored online, although they should  still be physically stored in a file cabinet somewhere. This allows easy access and availability for doctors and nurses anywhere in the hospital in case of  urgent times when they cannot run across the building to reach a patients file. This also just makes every ones life easier. 2.  V oting should be done 100% online for both provincial and federal elections starting in 2017.           I disagree with this statement as to me it seems a bit risky and dangerous. Both federal and provincial elections are serious events that if the results were, per say 'meddled with', then disaster could strike. If voting suddenly became done 100% online, it wo...

Journal #6: Digital Business

What I find the most surprising abut this unit is how easy it is to pay for things unknowingly, and give away your information to people like hackers and criminals. I have heard of apps like PayPal before but have never heard of Google wallet or Apple Pay. From my understanding, Apple pay is   a mobile payment and digital wallet service by Apple Inc. that lets users make payments using apple appliances. Almost everybody in my family has purchased something online and my experiences have been a variety of things from items arriving way past the original arrival date and looking a lot better quality online, to looking exactly the same as online in person and receiving what I have paid for. However, I have never sold anything online before.  What I think the biggest issue for young people when buying or selling things online is that most teens/tweens can not tell a secure site apart from an unsafe one. This leads to multiple scams, scandals, and un...

Journal #5: Digital Wellness

I have considered how technology can have a negative effect on my health and wellness before.  Some days I find myself getting sucked into the world of technology and staying on my phone for hours. It is so much that it gets me stuck in a slump feeling gross and drained. Ever since the first time this has happened, I have been considering the negative effects that technology can have on my health and well-being. Some activities you can do to step away from technology and connect with other people while staying activated and focused is by playing games that do not involve technology like board games that challenge you to think as a team, card games that activate your mind, and sport-like games that allow you to connect with other while being unplugged and active. When it comes to Digital wellness and young people, the biggest problem I think involved is the unhealthy relationship that most teens and tweens have with technology and social media. Technology ...

Journal Entry #4: Digital Etiquette

When it comes to digital etiquette, what I find the most surprising is how easy it is for companies to have you agree to terms you do not agree with through their terms & conditions. No, I do not think that most internet users read or concern themselves with the terms and conditions agreements when joining a site or online service. I think people should be concerned and read all of the terms and conditions before signing up for a site in case there are some conditions in fine print that you do not agree with, or in case that company is trying to get information from it's users. I would say my online behavior is ranked at around a 7. This is because I myself honestly never really read the terms and conditions before agreeing and signing up for different sites or apps, and sometimes post things without really thinking that I regret posting later, although that doesn't happen too  often. One thing I will take away from this unit in order to improve...
